Martha Mae Matthews, 94, of Tyrone

She was born in Kenwood, Ga. on December 6, 1923 to William and Bessie Darnell. She retired after 35 years as a cafeteria manager for the Fayette County school system, where she worked at Fayette County High School and Hood Avenue Elementary. After retirement, she worked part time at Smith & Davis.Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Edgar Matthews, five sisters and two brothers.She is survived by her son, Jacky Matthews (Melba); daughters, Patricia Peacock and Judy Banks (Jerry); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Darnell; and many nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Tyrone, Ga. Burial will follow at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery, Tyrone. The family received friends, Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville.Carl J.
